Lighting 101 Now Available in PDF Format
Finally found an umlimited bandwidth site that hosts files for free. (Thanks to Rui M. Leal for the formatting effort.)
If you are a newb, Lighting 101 is the foundation on which the site is built, and is the best place to start. I have left a few typos in there, just for added charm. Lots of charm, actually.
The pix are only screen-res, but the price is right. Full refund if not 100% satisfied.

SECOND UPDATE: The MediaFire server is groaning a little unter the strain, so reader Scott Johnson kindly offered to mirror the download site. (Thanks Scott!)

Thanks! Now I have something to read while I'm bored to death during school lunches! I never truly read L101; only skimmed.
thanks a lot, both of u guys! great job
Hi,
I have learnt a lot from the strobist blog.. If you ever require bandwidth to put up the PDF's or whatever please let me know. My e-mail is janantha[at]janantha.net, I can host for free as i've got plenty of bandwidth :)
Keep it up!!
Ahhhh, something to keep me busy on these lost hours when I don't have a connection to Internet. Good stuff, thanks guys
Thanks David, this is great, now I don't have to do that myself. ;)
Now, if only my order from MPEX would arrive.
Stupendous!
Thanks for the PDF file. It's cool to see you care about the poor dudes like me that want to be able to read the stuff offline... ;-)
By the way, since you said you preferred specific posts to link rather than full blogs, I thought you might like the article I posted yesterday about my card board soft box. Yeah, I know, your french's not that good. Well anyway, in case some french strobist reader is interested... ;-)

Thank you, it's an unvaluable guide.
A REALLY easy PDF program.

And the Strobist goodness just keeps coming!
Just when you think the site can't get any better, you come out and do something like this. Fantastic and thanks so much for the site.
Haha thank you very much!
I was just thinking last week how great it would be to have this stuff in PDF format... as I was COPYING AND PASTING all of the Lighting 101 articles into word to print and take on a road trip with me!
I really appreciate the effort you put into this blog!
Joe
Thank you for the guide and all the great tips over time. If you ever need help doing additional formatting of tips into printable formats (booklike, with live TOC links, etc.) let me know and I'd be happy to do it for free. If you're ever intersted, you can contact me at brianreyman1[at]yahoo.com.
Thanks again!
Hallelujah and mucho gratias!
if you ever needed an e-butler let me know.
David,
The PDF is awesome - an even simpler reference for the first-timer.
I'm placing this comment here regarding a possible typo your FAQ (no comments there) - I normally read thru any typos but this one makes a difference: how many viewers - 17,000 or 170,000?
- Ron
Ron-
Thanks for the heads-up. 170,000 is correct. Only a small percentage of the ste's readers take advantage of the Flickr group.
The other 90% are missing the best part, IMO..
Thank you so much for this!
You really should look into one of the print-on-demand services like Lulu or Blurb. You could offer a "book" or pdf through them and not have to worry with shipping, billing, etc. You could put any price you wanted on the work -- including free for the pdf.
My attempts at downloading the PDF is failing due to timeouts. I suspect that their business model is not compatible with just grabbibg the file.
I suspect that tucows or similar sites might be a better hosting site for the PDF.
greetings
Very strange, I can not download lighting101.pdf from the link.
May be tomorrow will be fine.
Man, all 17 of us must be spanking that server pretty hard. I can't download the pdf at all this morning.
Yup, I also cannot download this, too bad, I was all worked up for it!
Hay guys, I've uploaded this to rapidshare.com
I have a premium account, so it wont be taken down due to high bandwidth.
Here is the link. David, I tried emailing you the link, but could not find your email address.

David,
once again thank you for the support and the pdf file is great.
Thanks
Rui
Super stuff. Now if only i could download it :(
By the way... give zshare a try.
For those that did manage to download the pdf, it would be super cool if you could upload it to zshare and post back the link.
Thanks again for the time and effort you guys put into helping us get better.
Same for me, I can not download.
Thanks anyway
Scratch my last post.
I found the pdf somewheres in some far off country.
And i went ahead and posted the pdf to http://www.zshare.net/download/52781495522831/
You guys put together a great piece of work.
Thanks a million.
Thanks very much for taking the time to do this. I'd previously copied all of the 101 lessons into a single Word document but your formatting is much better. I'll be looking for a combined 102 in the future. ;-)
thanks a lot .. Paul (in the UK)
Well done guys. And to diminish the server load, I strongly suggest sharing through a torrent instead of everybody downloading the content of a single server.
This way everybody can help to keep the content alive and minimize server costs :)
Thank you so much for all your hard work

Hobby, I'm happy to host it on my site as well if that's okay with you. I'm going to go ahead and upload it - tell me if I'm violating some rules!
Here's the link. Feel free to distribute:

I'm running a BitTorrent seed now.
Thanks a whole bunch, David and Rui.
Thanks, David. Great idea to do this.
If you ever need more space for anything Strobist related, I'll be happy to host any of the bigger files, as I have plenty of bandwidth. My email is in my profile or on my blog.
Many thanks for this! I've been meaning to work my way through 101, and being able to print a hard copy of the complete thing will help greatly.
Keep up the fantastic work. You are a credit to the community.
Thanks for sharing PDF, very interesting
This is wonderful! Thanks!
Is PDF version of 102 on the way?
Strobist why not add a widget that translates your site to other languages? That way yo'll have full control and all the traffic will lead to your site.
celticland.com
Check my site you'll see the little flags.... from the stats I can see that people are reading it on their maiden language. They just click on their flag. My site is word-press but I'm sure blogger has widgets... heck you can also use the google translate plugin.
Perhaps scribd.com would be a great way to host it? People can even read it online without having to install a pdf viewer locally.
Hi David, I live in the Czech republic. And because your blog helped me a lot with my lighting I would like to participate in translating the lighting 101 into Czech language. If you are interested let me know, my email is michalfantaphoto [at] gmail [dot] com
This is awesome, just got my first flash so I think this makes for some essential reading! :)
Ever thought of adding this to project gutenberg as a free book or even the Amazon site? I just picked up a Kindle and was thinking it'd be cool to have it available on sites like these. Of course one could always transfer it manually but I thought if it were on one of these sites it might reach more people.
Thanks again, your blog has really changed the way I approach photography and not just lighting.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!
Is there an epub format available?
