Are You Just Dying to Get Into a New Studio?
UPDATE: The original I.P.S. site has since been taken down because they were "overwhelmed by orders and had to take the site down." (Natch.) Oh, and there were also a "few issues with the site that needed repair," too.
To their credit, they at least ran the new version through a spell check.
__________

I swear, I could not make this stuff up. The "Important" page on the new Inflatable Photo Studio (yes, I said Inflatable Photo Studio) includes the following among its several warnings:
But wait, there's more!
For instance, in the event of a "rapid deflation," not to worry! You have at least four minutes to get out alive -- if you remember to crawl and "keep your arms up at an angle in front of you." (Um, okay!)

"It is not recommended that you smoke, cook or have any open flames in the studio. Also lights can become very hot and melt the studio. Do not rest lighting or position it against the sides. Curling irons, hair driers (sic) irons, and steamers can also melt the plastic causing rapid deflation or possible fire."

That's golden. Especially the whole death part. Momma always said not to put plastic bags over my head, I'm not sure if this falls under that or not... :D
I guess filling it with helium is probably out of the question?
You missed the best part:
In the event of a thunderstorm, flash flood or hurricane, do not use the IPS as a shelter or flotation device.
Who's going to be the first to take one of these whitewater rafting?
Mike
It's a giant garbage bag with a blower. If it were posted on 1 April or if it were an Onion URL I would have no doubt that it's a joke. I wonder how well it would work with the strobe-umbrella hat?
Also, the inventor might want to investigate the difference between mm and mils. If it were made with 1/4 to 4/10 inch thick plastic, it would be unwieldy ... umm, more unwieldy.
I bet it's pretty loud in there when the fan is running to keep it inflated!
Sorry for the second post, but I just noticed this line:
"DO NOT KEEP THE DOORS SEALED OR ... THE PRESSURE MAY BE SO GREAT THAT THE HUMAN BODY MAY IMPLODE...."
Heck, maybe it really is 10mm thick.
Looks like a giant softbox, like those product shot setups you can buy, except you can stand inside this one!
Too bad they made it black on the inside, maybe they should make two versions.
Because you know, a normal tent just won't do. You need one that can only be inflated by a gigantic freaking fan.
"Be Wise, Don't Die."
Oh man! Can I get 2 of these?!
Wow. Not only a strange concept but a web page that never fully was accessible on my monitor and then crashed Firefox, which nothing has ever done before. Makes me leery of getting inside their giant plastic container!
I would say that is a full blown studio hehehe.
I'm wondering what its payload is when it floats away after the the air inside becomes heated by the sun. Could you imagine describing this on a permit?!
Word on the street is David Tejada is making his own very nifty $40 DIY Inflatable Photo Studio from garbage bags. Can't wait.
I cant wait to see all the DIY inflatable versions, made from Hefty bags, gaffers tape and three window fans.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I actually want one, wonder if I could bill it to a client? Heck I bet the school district I work for wouldn't even notice... *sigh* If only
Think I'll order one using my new inflatable netbook and old deflatable bank account.
the pic of captain Kirk clutching his throat makes me believe its fake. but who knows. the site doesn't work on Chrome either.
This is a company with a sense of humor. "If you suffer from a rare disease that makes you run in slow motion this may not be the product for you." I about fell over laughing, absolutely love it!
That's what I want to do, stand inside of a BLACK PLASTIC BAG when it is 85F and humidity is, say, 70%.
Dunno about the product itself, but I found the website a lot of fun... especially the scrollbar under ORDER NOW on the right side of the Store page.
I've been dragging it up and down for an hour now and just can't get enough of it. Such fun!
I also cannot see the point of it. :-/
"If you hold a chinese star throwing competition inside the studio"
LOL. I bet the Chinese celebrities you are throwing would object too :p
@Robert
Works on Chrome for me just fine.
if you hold a chinese star throwing contest they will not help you fix it ,they will however be happy to sell you another one . www. jasonandersonphoto.com thinks this is funny as heck
I have suffered no ill effects when using Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Maybe they updated the site after getting some major hits, thanks too the strobist and Twitter links.
Hehe, exactly what I was thinking Kurt, being of the warmer blooded variety myself at least there is a huge fan blowing in there!
Funny, the guy's last name is Hedenberg... close enough to remind me of something disasterous.
When you try to click on the store tab, it appears to work for a moment before the flash plug-in "crashes". I've tried this with a couple of browsers so far (IE and FF) with the same results.
Based on the inability to actually order (which is a commonality with joke sites), and the photos of Captain Kirk suffocating, I'm almost certain it's a joke. A wonderful joke.
Hey Dave, how would you like to be inside this thing at Dubai in the summer. Talk about "Shake and Bake"!
I just had a thought. What is we painted the rear silver, or white. Then we could have the wolrds biggest umbrella reflector.
I think I just got Rick, er...um Giant Inflatable Studio Roll'd.
Again.
I love how they tell you to not use it as a flotation device or shelter in case of flash floods or hurricanes. The sad part is that there might actually be a portion of society that needed to be told that.
I think the site is real, just not very well executed. Clicking thru to the photog's site, it also points back to IPS.
But between the Kirk thing, the misspellings, the multiple death warnings, the fact that the site is nonfunctional in just about any browser and, mostly, the product itself, I think it is just an incredibly poorly thought-out project.
But he sure is getting some traffic today.
:)
What the....seriously!
How about they throw in a sharp knife that can be used in case of rapid deflation. Then you could cut your way out.
I assume that the fan and lights all run off of power from somewhere. You would also need a generator and a pretty hefty one to keep that fan and all your lights on.
Any ideas on what clients would say when you invite them to your studio and it is this big bag. Cute.
WHAT??? No testimonials? That really surprises me.
How much extra to add in a giant inflatable Cyclorama?
It's an interesting idea, but uh yea i'll pass on the giant death trap.
looks like an inflatable doll for whales?
Personally, I love the Privacy Policy!!
"here at ips, we loves us some inflatin' and it be showin' like a mutha fucka"
His site worked fine for me, although on my netbook I couldn't see the whole thing... :/ Funny as it is, I think its a great idea for a niche market!

What amazed me about it is that someone would go though all the effort of making that web page, then do such a bad photochop.
who would like to shoot or get shot in a giant fan powered mammoth dropping anyway ?
Priceless.
Dont'cha get the feeling we're all gettin' punked?!!

BS.In a nutshell.
These folks will have a serious problem when Paramount finds copy-righted material on their website.
If you click on the Important tab you’ll see a frame grab from the original Star Trek series.
@John Farrell Jr.:
"Any ideas on what clients would say when you invite them to your studio and it is this big bag."
HA HA HAAA!! I was thinking the same thing: how do you convince your model of getting inside that thing?
And then, I wonder what kind of insurance the photographer needs when working with a tool that can choke you, implode the human body, float away or crush your ear drums. That must be extra.
it wouldn't be bad if the whole thing was a NON-LETHAL TENT type thing (like a gigantic softbox) but this is too funny, great find david.
Looks like a Macy's Parade Balloon lost a kidney.
Group Buy anyone? come on, im gonna order two!
Wondering this stuff can fly just like Zeppelin and has transparent surface.
:D
He should have hired my 12 year old for copy editing. I would never buy anything from this guy.
sounds fantastic! ill order myself two! dont think it will fit in my livingroom though.
maybe i could put it up in a park, put in a bed, an electric heater.... and live there?
err...wouldn't it be just easier, and probably yield more interesting photos if you just shot outside?
....Just saying.
A giant black box? Wouldnt it be easier just to shoot outside AT NIGHT? It's not like it has heat anyway

The website link is flying all over Facebook as well amongst photographers and other industry types... hopefully as a joke!
ya know, it does look kinda like a body bag...... hmmmmm.
the site has now been taken down because:
"We recently became overwhelmed by orders and had to take the site down. There were also a few issues with the site that needed repair and redesign."
I hope this thing isn't actually real.
I still can't tell if this is real.. I want to believe it is! :(
Did anyone notice that Brian, the inventor of the inflatable studio, last name is Hedenberg.
And the it does remind me of the infamous Hindenberg derigible. Hope it doesn't bursts into flames.
Apparently the new site has been taking orders for the past few weeks but it just hit the news again today saying the site was being relaunched. my "Hooligan" came in over the weekend and i gotta say, its pretty freakin' awesome. The thing is huge! I've got shoots booked for this weekend. Can't wait.

A black exterior in the sun will quickly warm to 120 degrees F. Accessory: big freaking umbrella and no wind ...
The original cost on these things were suppose to be like $400. Now they are over $1000. I say go to Home Depot. Pick up a 150' roll of Tyvek (it's breathable, Water and fire resistant and durable for $150 with a $50 fan and some Tyvek tape and make your own for about $250. It would be great for lighting, like a cloudy day feel inside while it could be cloudless out.
